Construction workers in New South Wales will get a pay rise this year and a new government health cover, the ACT Government said on Tuesday.
Construction workers will see their wages rise from the $2.50 to $3.10 an hour, with the Commonwealths own employers getting $1.70 to $1,80.
Construction Industry Association president Mike Taylor said the pay hike was a big boost for construction workers in NSW.
He said the increase would help pay for the new $10.8 billion bridge between the Hobart and Port Pirie.
Mr Taylor said construction workers were looking for work and the government had provided good support.
“It will be a great deal for the construction industry,” he said.
Mr Hartley said the government was committed to providing good health care to construction workers.
“This is the best health care system in the world and this is going to provide good benefits to construction industry workers,” he told ABC Radio Hobart.
“And we’re just looking forward to making sure they have access to that.”
Mr Hartson said construction companies were going to be paying better.
“The Government has a strong track record of supporting construction industry employers, especially the construction sector,” he added.
The ACT Government’s announcement comes after a report found that there was a major shortage of construction workers and many employers were not providing adequate medical and dental care.
The Government said the Government was committed “to ensuring all construction industry employees have access” to the Commonwealth’s health cover.
Construction industry members of the Construction Industry Union, which represents construction workers, said the move was a huge boost for the industry.
“We welcome this pay increase,” said Chris Johnson.
“That’s fantastic news for all of us construction workers out there.”
The ACT Government has been very clear on its commitment to supporting construction workers with good health and dental coverage, and the Government has always had a solid track record in supporting construction companies.
“Construction workers across NSW received their first pay rises in January.
Construction companies in NSW will receive a further increase in wages from January 1.
“For a lot of construction companies, it’s just a question of how they’re going to manage that. “
What we need is the Government giving us the health coverage that we want and then we can see how it’s going to affect our lives,” Mr Johnson said.
Construction Industry Australia’s health and wellbeing director, James Cook, said construction industry members were entitled to access the Commonwealth health cover “if they’re employed in the construction and related industry”. “
At the moment, they’re making sure it’s not compulsory and the problem is that the health benefit that they’re getting now is really not enough.”
Construction Industry Australia’s health and wellbeing director, James Cook, said construction industry members were entitled to access the Commonwealth health cover “if they’re employed in the construction and related industry”.
Construction workers are paid a higher wage than those in other industries, and can receive health coverage if they work for a construction company.
“But we do not expect the Government is going do anything to help the construction workers who are paying the highest wages in the industry,” Mr Cook said.
Construction worker unions have been calling on the Government for health coverage since January, calling for more money for construction industry to be able to cover its employees.
“They’ve been pushing for it for years, and now it’s finally coming,” Mr Hartleys said.
Workforce spokesman and former construction worker, Nick Harris, said he believed the government would provide the health care for construction sector workers.
He agreed with Mr Hartles assessment of the health situation in the sector.
“If you look at the average age of construction worker is 28, that’s probably the lowest it’s been for years,” he argued.
“I’ve been doing construction for almost 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like this.”
Mr Harris said there were more than 100 construction workers at his workplace, including those employed in construction.
“There are about 30 workers at my company, and all of them are construction workers,” Mr Harris told ABC Hobart’s Andrew McDonald.
Construction industry union, Construction Industry Members, has called for the Commonwealth to provide construction workers access to the health insurance. “
Even if it’s a small amount, it really is a huge loss of life for a young person to be in that situation.”
Construction industry union, Construction Industry Members, has called for the Commonwealth to provide construction workers access to the health insurance.
“When it comes to construction companies we’ve got to be prepared for the worst, and we’ve been for a long time,” Mr Williams said.
The Construction Industry Workers Union has also called for a health cover for construction employees.
Mr Williams told ABC Breakfast that if the health and safety of construction industry was not a priority, then the Government should support the industry instead of cutting it.
“Because if we’re not prepared to be there, if we are not prepared as workers, to be ready for the impacts that come from the building industry, then it’s very difficult for us
