By Taylor SmithThe Austin American-Statesman (AP) – Taylor Construction Inc. has a plan to expand its footprint in Austin by leasing a former warehouse and a nearby property to an unspecified construction company.
The company plans to use the space for a future commercial project, according a news release from the Austin city attorney’s office.
It would be the latest in a string of Austin companies expanding their footprint in the past several years.
Austin was ranked No. 1 in the U.S. in the number of construction jobs in 2013, according the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas’ job site.
Austin is now home to about 20,000 construction jobs.
Taylor Construction already has a property in the former Taylor Tool Factory site.
In December, the company leased the former site of a Taylor Tool factory for a $100 million expansion.
The former Taylor Manufacturing site is a warehouse for Taylor Tool Co., which also makes parts for the U-Haul trucking company and the trucking industry.
The new Austin site will house an office, retail and warehouse space, and a commercial project that could be a new restaurant, office and other development.
The news release said that the company was looking for a potential partner for the commercial development, but the project would likely not begin as soon as this year.
