Construction accident in the USA is a common occurrence.
According to an analysis by construction firm GEO Group, more than $15 billion was spent on construction in 2017, and $1.4 trillion was spent in total in 2016.
That’s up from $9.7 trillion in 2015.
The construction industry has been hit hard by the recession, which has also impacted construction industry workers.
According a recent study by the US Federal Reserve Bank, the number of construction jobs is projected to decrease by 5.4 percent in 2020.
There is also a significant increase in construction accidents, a problem that’s only going to worsen with the current construction boom.
“As construction activity continues to surge, the average annual rate of construction accidents is up to more than five times higher than it was in the late 1990s, and the pace of construction-related accidents has continued to rise,” said GEO Research’s Brian E. Daugherty in a statement.
“The number of fatalities related to construction accidents has increased by almost threefold since 2010, and there has been a significant uptick in construction-associated injuries, particularly injuries related to falls.”
According to a report from the National Safety Council, construction accidents have increased by 8.4% in 2017 compared to the same period in 2016, and nearly half of the fatal accidents were caused by workers who fell while working on the job.
The report said that the number is up even faster in the second half of 2018, and that the average yearly increase in fatal accidents in 2018 is 10.4%.
There is still a long way to go in addressing the problem, however.
The National Association of Home Builders has warned that many of the new construction houses are still too big, and some have dangerous construction practices.
“We are hearing more and more stories of construction workers injured or killed while working in their new home,” said John Schmitt, the NHABC’s executive director.
“New construction construction homes are still the worst-in-class, but we’re seeing a lot more safety issues.
We are also seeing a tremendous increase in the number and types of injuries.”
“The average age of construction homes is more than twice the age of the average home in the U.S. and more than two and a half times the average age for all new construction homes in the country,” Schmitt added.
“Even with the rise in construction activity, we need to take more proactive safety measures.”
The NHABS said in a report released last year that the building industry is also experiencing a significant number of injuries, and its staffs are working to make sure construction workers are safe and out of harm’s way.
“Injuries are happening in a much more dramatic way in construction than we would have expected,” said the report’s co-author, James F. Davis, a professor of economics at Cornell University.
“There are more injuries than we had expected, and we’re hearing more from contractors.”
