Construction companies are the big employers in the United States, according to a new report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Construction companies employ more than 30 million people, according the Fed’s Survey of Employment, Wage and Hour Statistics.
That includes construction workers in both full-time and part-time jobs.
They employ roughly 25% of all construction workers.
The top 10 construction companies are based in New York, California, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, and Maryland.
Construction companies in Pennsylvania are ranked first, followed by the states of Virginia, Texas and Ohio.
The second-largest construction company in the U.S. is the Chicago-based United Technologies Corp., with a combined market capitalization of $2.9 trillion.
The fourth-largest company in that list is GE, with a market cap of $1.4 trillion.
These 10 construction firms employ an average of 25,000 people, and are responsible for almost $1 trillion of construction projects each year.
The biggest construction companies also employ thousands of full- and part and temporary workers.
The average construction worker employed in the top 10 has a job that includes an average annual salary of $51,000.
The list of the 10 largest construction firms in the country also includes the American Red Cross and United Way.
The Red Cross employs more than 1.1 million people.
The United Way employs more at least 3.7 million people worldwide.
